Spicebush Scientific name: Lindera Benzoin-Native
Height: 8–12 ft. Width: 8-12 ft. Growth Rate: Slow to moderate Habitat: Shade to part sun. Prefers moist well-drained loam to clay soils. Greenish yellow flowers in early spring. Bright red fragrant fruit in fall, stems & leaves have a spicy aroma. Host plant for Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly Caterpillars. Attracts butterflies & birds. Showy flowers, leaves turn golden yellow in the fall. Used for hedges, borders, shade or woodland gardens, moist areas along streams or ponds, native plant gardens or naturalized plantings. Pickup dates Friday May 2nd from 12pm to 6pm and Saturday May 3rd from 9am to 1pm. Location of pickup is the Berrien County Youth Fairgrounds, 9122 US Hwy 31, Berrien Springs, MI 49103. Use Office gate across from United Federal Credit Union. Do not use the Shawnee Road Entrance, use the US Hwy 31 Entrance.
