Redbud (Cercis Canadensis): The Redbud is an ornamental tree that has pretty lavender-rose pea-like blossoms in April. The heart shaped leaves don’t come out until Easter time and turn different colors with the changing of the seasons. The leaves are red-purple in spring turning green in summer and then golden-yellow in fall. The fruit is a pod that hangs on the tree throughout the winter. It is a small slow growing tree that can grow up to 15 to 30 feet. The small tree branches hang low to the ground and spread elegantly into a rounded shape. The trees grow well in full sun or light shade in windy dry areas. It grows in wet or moist, nutrient-rich soils but can grow well under various soil conditions. |
