White Pine (Pinus Strobus):

This pine was once the principle tree in Northern Michigan, and is still prized for it’s valuable lumber. The Pine can reach 4 feet in 6 to 7 years with a maximum height of 80 to 120 feet. This Pine has long, soft needles and a shape that changes with age. When it is younger it is a pyramidal shape and when it is older is more of an umbrella shape. The shade factor also changes with age. It is more shade tolerant when it is young. It should be planted where there is tall trees around in rich porous, moist sands. Wood is used for cabinet work, interior finishes, wooden ware, matches, lumber, and also provides food for deer, rabbits and squirrels.
